Neighborhood Block Party.
Our neighbors and our family organize this event one Saturday in July each summer. It is a good opportunity to get to know our neighbors, many of whom we only greet during the week as we get on with our busy lives. There are games for the kids, lots of food, and special music. Here Sue is talking to Isabel who is a mom of three boys (all under six). Sue’s dad was also able to enjoy this time with us.

Everyone brought a salad, their own drinks, and some meat to cook over the fire pit.

After supper Sue organized the entertainment with a jam session up on our balcony. Anna and Teresa, two teenage girls whose mom is German and Dad is Croatian, brought their guitars and joined Sue on the guitar and Hannah on the flute. Bob got to join in a little with his harmonica. Since Anna and Teresa help lead worship for the local Catholic church they enjoy learning and playing along with the worship songs that we sing in chapel and in church.

English Camps!
Sue and Hannah got to help out with Janz Team’s outreach to the German community through this summer’s English camps. Sue worked with one camp and Hannah at another. These camps help kids with their English and give them the opportunity to hear the Gospel and put their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior.
Sunday School!
Marshall and a group of other middle schoolers have been helping out with Sunday school this summer doing drama and leading games for the elementary school age kids.

Cousin David comes to visit!
David is Sue’s nephew from Washington State. He is currently serving with the Air Force in South Korea. We are enjoying having him here and showing him around a bit. David has also been helping us solve some of our computer problems and he has helped Bob out on the dorm project with some stucco work and cleaning up.

What else have we been doing this summer?
Sue and I found some cheap tickets to Spain and got away for 6 days, just the two of us! We enjoyed a lot of beach time, walking and holding hands, reading and praying together - rediscovering one another and exploring a little bit of Spain. Have you ever read, “The Shack”?
Sue’s Dad visited with us for two weeks. It was great to have “Pop Pop” here with us. We did some sight seeing together with him, mostly in the Black Forest Area. We drove through a lot of beautiful countryside visiting museums and castles and enjoying German food.

Stay tuned for pictures of English camps, Marshall’s involvement in teaching Sunday School, and our neighborhood block party.
